QEEG & Brain Assessment in Petaluma, Sonoma County
Understanding the Brain by Mapping How It Functions
QEEG & Brain Assessment
Quantitative EEG maps brainwave patterns to guide personalized neurofeedback training plans.
A QEEG (quantitative EEG) brain assessment maps how your brain is functioning — revealing patterns of overactivity, underactivity, and instability that often underlie symptoms such as anxiety, ADHD, sleep problems, and emotional dysregulation.
At my Petaluma office, QEEG results guide a personalized neurofeedback training plan rather than a one-size-fits-all protocol. This data-driven starting point helps us target the brain networks most relevant to your goals.

How QEEG & Brain Assessment can help
- Non-invasive brain mapping before training begins
- Identifies dysregulated brainwave patterns linked to symptoms
- Guides selection of the most appropriate neurofeedback modality
- Useful for adults, teens, and children in Sonoma & Marin County

Why Brain Assessment Matters
Every brain functions differently, which is why an individualized assessment is an important first step before beginning neurofeedback training. Rather than relying on assumptions, QEEG assessment helps establish a baseline of how your brain is functioning today. This information allows treatment to be tailored specifically to your unique brain activity, symptoms, and goals.
By understanding areas of dysregulation before training begins, neurofeedback can be more targeted, efficient, and personalized. Regular reassessment throughout treatment also allows progress to be monitored and protocols adjusted as your brain changes over time.
Assessment provides the roadmap for personalized neurofeedback—not a one-size-fits-all approach.

What is QEEG Brain Mapping?
Quantitative Electroencephalography (QEEG), often called a brain map, is a non-invasive assessment that analyzes patterns of electrical activity in the brain.
Small sensors are comfortably placed on the scalp to record brainwave activity. The recording is then analyzed using advanced software to identify patterns that may indicate areas of dysregulation, overactivity, underactivity, or reduced connectivity between different brain regions.
Rather than diagnosing mental health conditions, QEEG helps identify how your brain is functioning. These findings help guide neurofeedback training by identifying which brain networks may benefit from targeted intervention.
For many individuals, this personalized approach leads to more focused and efficient neurofeedback treatment.

Understanding Your Experience
Questionnaires and symptom checklists provide valuable insight into how symptoms affect everyday life.
These assessments explore areas such as anxiety, depression, attention, emotional regulation, sleep, executive functioning, trauma symptoms, and stress.
Together with the clinical interview, these tools help identify treatment priorities, establish a baseline before neurofeedback begins, and monitor meaningful progress throughout care.
This combination of objective brain data and your personal experience creates a more complete picture than either could provide alone.

Continuous Performance Testing
A Continuous Performance Test (CPT) is an objective assessment that measures attention, focus, reaction time, impulse control, and sustained concentration.
During the assessment, you respond to specific visual or auditory cues while ignoring distractions. The results provide valuable information about cognitive performance that may not always be obvious during conversation alone.
When appropriate, CPT results are combined with QEEG findings to help better understand attention-related concerns and guide individualized neurofeedback protocols.

Full QEEG or Mini-QEEG?
Not everyone requires the same level of assessment.
Depending on your symptoms, history, and treatment goals, a full QEEG brain map or a more focused Mini-QEEG assessment may be recommended.
During your consultation, we will discuss which option is most appropriate for your situation and whether additional assessment tools would provide meaningful information before beginning neurofeedback.
The goal is always to gather enough information to create a personalized treatment plan—without recommending unnecessary testing.
